Why Do We Believe in Green?

planet_hands

Because we realize the impact that our built environment has on our natural environment. Because the natural environment of western Colorado is why we choose to live and work here. Because we believe in the future of our community and the future of the natural environment.

By choosing green building strategies we believe that we can maximize the value to our community members while minimizing the impact on our surroundings. The value of our efforts lies in the benefits that come from: Reduced impact on land and water, Reduced operating costs, Reduced energy consumption, Increased productivity, Increased quality of life, Improved air and water quality.

There has been a dramatic shift in the industry of development and home building towards conservation and efficiency. Using our limited natural resources effectively in all that we create is the most important thing we can do for our environment. Our green program is a community wide effort that is a commitment to create a community that people want to live in, where they can feel confident that they are doing their part to help the environment. Building green homes is only a small part of building green communities.

The simple goals of our green community:

  • Improving energy efficiency
  • Reducing pollution
  • Reducing water usage
  • Improving indoor and outdoor air quality
  • Preserving natural resources
  • Reducing operating costs

What makes Cobble Creek Green?

Golf View

While not every aspect of our community has been constructed using green technology we have made every effort to find the most environmentally friendly practices in everything we do. Our new 15,000 square foot club house and fitness center has been constructed with energy efficiency and life cycle cost at the forefront. Geothermal heating and cooling requires no fossil fuels. Recycled, engineered beams, posts and architectural trusses make up the buildings support structure. The orientation of the building is not only based on the spectacular views but takes advantage of passive solar heat gain in the winter and minimizes gain in the summer. We used R-?? in the walls and R-?? in the ceiling and upgrades to the building envelope that contribute to very low electric bills. All appliances and mechanical systems are energy star rated. The windows are all high performance and the majority of the lights are compact fluorescent (CFL). Our new carts are all-electric and use a charging system which is on a timer that takes advantage of low energy costs during off-peak hours. We have an extensive recycling program working with the restaurant and local government to minimize our contributions to landfills. The proximity to the Montrose bike path encourages our homeowners to leave their cars at home and ride their bikes to work.
